Saturday, April 19, 2014
First video in the course of free online guitar lessons aimed at the complete novice naming the parts of the guitar.
Everyone has to start somewhere and if you are are newcomer to the guitar then you are very welcome, its great to have you on board. When I first started I had no idea what the any thing was and the first step was to at east know what the different parts of the guitar were called.
Fundamentally there are 3 different section to the guitar – The headstock (or sometimes just head) where the Tuning heads (or tuners or machine heads) are located. Then there is the neck where your left had goes and where the frets are. Different guitars have different numbers of frets for example a Fender Stratocaster has 21, a Les Paul has 22 some have 24. Then we get to the body which is usually made of wood. Common wood types are mahogany, ash, poplar, maple but all sorts are used. Here we have the pickups that actually create the current that the amplifier turned into sound and the bridge and tailpiece which one many guitars is a combined unit. The strings pass over the bridge saddles. And thats about all there is to it. So at least when I refer to different things on the guitar you’ll know what I am talking about now!
